Art Instructor/Ceramics
Location: 1125 S. Gaffey St., San Pedro, CA 90731

Responsibilities: The Instructor will work one-on-one with adult students with developmental disabilities to develop their own unique artwork for sale at our San Pedro site and other exhibition venues. This person should know a variety of ceramics (firing, glazing, wheel throwing, hand building) materials/techniques and other mixed-media techniques including drawing, painting, collage, etc. that can be adapted to create successful projects with our students. Responsibilities also include ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, and helping to maintain an overall enjoyable studio for all participants. Applicant should know how to operate and maintain electric and gas kilns, and be able to demonstrate their knowledge through their art portfolio. Knowledge and interest in contemporary art needed. Instructor will implement artistic, educational, and behavioral treatment plans monthly. The position entails working with several developmentally disabled clients at a time in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Experience with the developmentally disabled community is highly preferred, but not required.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and technical ceramic skills. Six months related experience. Knowledge and interest in contemporary art needed. Must have a portfolio of finished work. Experience with the developmentally disabled community is highly preferred, but not required. A primary part of our consideration will be based on your portfolio.
