Amsterdam Light Festival invites artists, designers, engineers and architects to submit ideas for art works to be staged at the festival's 2015–2016 edition. The fourth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival will take place in the city centre of Amsterdam from 26 November 2015 till 31st January 2016. The deadline for submissions is 25 of March.

Theme: Friendship

This edition of the festival, we celebrate humanity, and light as a universal language to express ourselves. The festival's theme this year is friendship. You can interpret this theme anyway you like. During the period of the Amsterdam Light Festival, Amsterdam is the stage of the European Summits as a result of The Netherlands holding presidency of the European Union. We are particularly interested in art works that express an understanding of the importance of friendships across Europe, of the way the continent has become more and more united over the past 50 years and how the friendship that has been established within the European Union translates into the continent's value for all individuals who live there.

The festival will again present the Water Colors boat tour and the Illuminade walking route. Water Colors is comprised of large, colourful, monumental works along the canals while the Illuminade offers a platform for talent, experimentation, interaction and mixed forms of art and digital technology.

Open to all
With the call for concepts, the festival invites anyone (also from outside Europe) to submit individual interpretations of the theme friendship. In the context of this theme we hope to reach as many artists from different nations as possible. Please help us to spread this call. Dates & specifics of the festival
Water Colors boat route: 26 November 2015–31 January 2016
Illuminade walking route: 10 December 2015–3 January 2016

Amsterdam Light Festival is a long-lasting festival, so we are looking for objects which can be maintained over the entirety of the festival/route, seven days a week.

The festival is a breeding place for new light art. So we are especially looking for new concepts which are tailored to our festival and the city.

Deadline
You have to complete your submission by 25 March (24h CET). Late entries are not accepted. On 8 April, the festival will announce 70 finalists who will be asked to further detail their design and to resolve production issues. Subsequently, we are planning to announce the approximately 30 winners on 29 April. All winners will be required to visit Amsterdam for a site visit in May 2015, now scheduled for 11–13 May, the precise dates are to be announced.
