VENICE ARTS DARKROOM PHOTOGRAPHY INTERNSHIP

Photography Internship Description:
The Photography Intern will work in Venice Arts' darkroom assisting intermediate photography students with the technical aspects of developing film and printing photographs in the traditional silver process. The Intern will be responsible for setting-up, breaking down and cleaning the darkroom at the end of each session. He or she will assist the Photography Programs Manager with duties related to the implementation of photography classes for youth. Responsibilities include maintaining a functional and well-organized darkroom facility, taking note of and addressing any issues that arise with the help of the Photography Programs Manager.
Darkroom Lab meets Tuesday and Wednesday 4:00 – 6:00 pm ( ½ hour for set-up and clean-up). The Photography Intern will work directly with the Photography Programs Manager. Perfect for students interested in teaching photography. Must be reliable and available for at least one semester Preference is given to students who can commit to an academic year – September through May (with time-off for holiday breaks).

Qualifications: The ideal intern is a photographer who is well-organized, motivated and comfortable leading and working with teens in a community-based setting. Knowledge of analog photography and darkroom skills are essential.

FILMMAKING & ANIMATION EDUCATION INTERNSHIP

Internship Description
The Filmmaking & Animation Education Intern will assist in Venice Arts' filmmaking and animation programs for low–income youth. Her or his responsibilities will include any duties related to assisting in the programs; maintaining the digital labs; maintaining film equipment, preparing content to post online; DVD creation, archiving of student work, assisting with organization of film screenings, and potentially mentoring youth in our filmmaking and animation programs.
This is generally an unpaid, part-time position (3-6 hours per week based on availability) working directly with the Lead Filmmaker. Academic credit and a financial stipend may be available depending on your university.
Qualifications
The ideal intern is a filmmaking or animation student with experience working digitally.
She or he is well-organized, motivated, and comfortable working in a community-based setting. Experience with either Final Cut Pro, iMovie, or Flash required. Proficiency on Macintosh computers required.

Internship Description
The Photography Education Intern will work in Venice Arts' gallery and assist in its photography education programs for low-income youth. Her or his responsibilities will include any duties related to assisting the photography program; maintaining the darkroom and digital labs; updating the digital image archive; processing and printing black and white film, scanning prints and negatives, re-touching of digital files, creating inkjet prints, providing general program support, and potentially mentoring youth in our photography programs.
This is generally an unpaid part-time position (3-6 hours per week based on availability) working directly with the Lead Photographer. Academic credit and a financial stipend may be available depending on your university.
Qualifications
The ideal intern is a photography student with experience in both a black-and-white and digital darkroom. She or he is well-organized, motivated, and comfortable working in a community-based setting. Experience with PhotoShop a plus, as is proficiency on
Macintosh computers.

Venice Arts: Volunteer Artist Mentor
Venice Arts is always interested in finding qualified volunteers who can assist with our youth programs. Professionals and college students with background qualifications in the following may apply: photography, film/video, animation, multimedia and/or visual arts. Many of our mentors use volunteering as a way to gain teaching experience in their field. Others simply want to inspire young people to hone their craft. Volunteers will be trained by Venice Arts staff and given artist mentor assignments, in our Venice programs, and/or at offsite partner locations.
Requirements:
Must be a photographer, filmmaker, animator, multimedia or visual artist working with media. Experience teaching or working with youth is preferred, but not necessary.
Job Dates:
We are currently looking for Volunteer Artist Mentors for our Academic Year, September 21 2013 through May 3, 2014. You can work during our Fall Session Sept – December or during our Spring Session February through May, although preference will be given to those who can commit to working the full academic year.
You will be part of a team comprised of a Lead Artist, with background and experience in education, who works cooperatively with volunteer artist mentors to teach the workshops.
Volunteer artist mentors are asked to arrive to their assigned workshop at least 30 minutes early and stay after class for 15-30 minutes to work with the Lead Artist, review the lesson plan, and prepare for that day's class. Volunteers are welcomed, and encouraged, to prepare and lead lessons, and present their own work, when appropriate.
