Exceptional Children's Foundation, a growing nonprofit social service agency serving clients with developmental disabilities throughout LA County, is seeking an experienced, Ceramics Art Instructor for our Downtown Los Angeles Art Center studio. The Instructor will work one-on-one with adult students with developmental disabilities to develop their own unique artwork for sale in our downtown gallery as well as in other exhibition venues. Responsibilities also include ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students, and helping to maintain an overall enjoyable studio for all participants. The Instructor will implement artistic, educational, and behavioral treatment plans monthly. The position entails working with a several developmentally disabled clients at a time in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Experience with the developmentally disabled community is highly preferred, but not required.
We are looking for an individual who:
1. Is technically skilled in ceramics
2. Can think outside the box with projects
3. Can also work in painting, drawing, mixed media on occasion
4. Is intuitive, creative and a self starter
5. Has a strong and diverse art portfolio
6. Loves contemporary art and has a strong knowledge of contemporary artists.
7. Is patient
8. Loves working with people and is comfortable with adults with Developmental Disabilities
The following is required:
1. Expertise in ceramic techniques (slab, coil, pinch, raku, pitfire, glazing, throwing…etc)
2. Ability to operate an electric kiln
3. Familiar with glaze techniques
4. Ability to initiate and create customized clay projects for different clients
5. Ability to organize workspace and workflow
6. California Driver's License and reliable vehicle

1. A primary work schedule of Monday-Friday 8:00am – 3:30pm, with some flexibility
2. This position will begin in July or August of 2013
