A jewel in the crown of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs' facilities in Barnsdall Park, the gallery has been central to the growth of Los Angeles as an international art capital. Since its founding in 1954, LAMAG has showcased the work of emerging, midcareer, and established artists from the region, as well as group shows that tap into contemporary art movements, issues, and ideas and shine a light on the diverse cultural communities that make up Los Angeles.
