AMP: Artists' Meeting Place and Resource Collective

The Arts Council for Long Beach seeks Long Beach artists for an upcoming photography exhibit, Nomadic Exposure, to showcase the numerous public art installations throughout the city of Long Beach. All photos must be taken with a mobile phone camera. Discreet, quick and readily accessible, the lenses in such phones let professional and amateur photographers alike capture on-the-spot images. What was once something of no value on a mobile phone is now used by professional photographers as another medium of artistic expression. The convenience of these cameras encourages people of all levels of photographic skill to engage with their surroundings and bring a unique perspective to Long Beach's public art collection. Artists are encouraged to reflect on how the community interacts with these pieces and how they influence the city landscape and identity.

Post processing of the image is allowed. While not required, it is encouraged that the post processing is done on the mobile device with various editing applications – furthering the concept of accessibility. Images that are not taken with a mobile device will be discarded from the jury process. The artwork will be presented at The Collaborative Gallery in Downtown Long Beach in the summer of 2013.

Eligibility & Requirements:
• Open to artists who live and/or work in Long Beach, CA.
• Photography can be black & white or color.
• Photographs may not exceed 11" x 14" (mobile phones do not
allow printing beyond this size).
• May submit up to five photographs.
• Photographs can be uploaded in the following formats: JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PDF
• Include title (if applicable), title of public art, size, location, and date when photo was taken
• Must be taken with a camera on a mobile phone/device.

DO NOT EMAIL YOUR SUBMISSION. Please submit JUST the images to the online submission form. The artist must frame and matte the photographs after they receive notification where we will give you further instruction. **This requirement changed from the original posting of this call**
