Christoph Draeger, 12–31 August 2013
Thomas Kilpper, 22 July–10 August 2013
Robert Kuśmirowski, 22 July–10 August 2013
Application deadline: 15 May 2013

This year's Summer Academy offers three courses (out of altogether 21) in large-scale three-dimensional sculptures and installations. All the courses start with given material, objects and site. To realise their ideas and to find new forms, participants will concentrate on transformation of given situations.

What lies behind the phenomena, behind the flickering screens, behind the decadent projection surfaces of all-encompassing consumerism? In Christoph Draeger's course, the situational character of the sculpture explores the potential that lies in everyday objects when their meaning is altered by placing them in a different context. Existing materials will be combined into collages, assemblages, sculptures or installations as to create new contentual relationships. The focus is not on the object (or the image) itself, but on what is created with it.
Duration: 12–31 August 2013
Fee: € 890.- (red. € 650.-)

Thomas Kilpper will make floorcuts with his students. Most probably in an empty building, scheduled for demolition, in Hallein, they will cut pictures into the existing flooring – pictures like journals, pictures of the place, images or texts that hold a certain importance for the students at the moment, etc. Afterwards, they will cover the floor with letterpress ink and then make prints on paper or fabric. The course will include research and examination of the collective project.
Duration: 22 July–10 August 2013
Fee: € 890.- (red. € 650.-)

Each student in Robert Kuśmirowski's course will be allotted a workplace with the same materials. This strict specification of place and material is balanced by freedom in the choice of subject. The challenge for students is to develop an individual theme, against the background of their own knowledge and experience, using the given materials. The aim of the course is for students to work out new perspectives and possibilities in sculpture, to learn detachment from their own works and to experiment with the temporal limitation of a work.
Duration: 22 July–10 August 2013
Fee: € 890.- (red. € 650.-)
