ZURICH BACHELOR IN MEDIA & ART
The internationally positioned Bachelor of Arts in Media & Art at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) provides state-of-the-art training for future artists, media authors, and cultural professionals. All three professions share a distinctive attitude toward authorship. In the Department of Art & Media, we support students develop this stance by offering them the freedom and scope to acquire and experiment with different artistic techniques, media, and theories. We both expect and foster individual responsibility and self-organization as the cornerstones of our program. Students at the Bachelor Media & Art are encouraged to actively shape their program of studies. Coursework requires students to be self-motivated and eager to produce their own work. We envisage future students to have a positive disposition toward inner productivity are curiosity, a willingness to take risks, and an uncompromising attitude toward one's own themes, interests, and methods. Our students benefit from individual studio spaces, a wide range of facilities tailored to one's needs and personalized mentoring.
FOUR SPECIALIZATIONS
Our program offers a unique range of four specializations: fine arts, photography, media arts, and theory. Its scope and thematic breadth make for an attractive degree course, tailored to individual needs. Coursework includes both disciplinary and interdisciplinary modules. This distinctive feature allows for in-depth study and simultaneously ensures a broad horizon through interdisciplinary formats between and across specializations.
GOALS
The primary aim of our BA in Media & Art is to lay a solid foundation for further study of a Master in Fine Arts. Students graduating from the BA in Media & Art have been equipped to undertake individual and collaborative ventures (the latter in conjunction with other artists and cultural professionals). Upon successful completion, they will be able to pursue careers in the cultural and creative industries and in the dissemination of art to a wider public.
ZHDK AND ZURICH
Zurich University of the Arts is amongst the largest art schools in Europe. While firmly anchored in Greater Zurich, our influence extends well beyond Switzerland to the wider international stage. The school comprises state of the art facilities including production workshops, exhibition and performance spaces and a strong network to the international art community. As of September 2013, ZHdK will be moving into its brand new Campus Toni-Areal where all disciplines come together under one roof to enhance and foster a vivid atmosphere for transdisciplinary research and creation. Zurich as the cultural center for art in Switzerland provides a unique and vibrant cultural scene at the heart of Europe.
