From the beginning of December, the international platform RESÒ residency program is pleased to announce the new open call for its third edition.

The six mid-term residencies will run in 2013 in Piedmont (Italy) and San Paulo (Brazil), New Delhi (India) and Cairo (Egypt).

Born in 2010 from a collaboration between the leading Piedmontes institutions for contemporary art and education, the platform RESÒ is supported and promoted by the Foundation for Modern and Contemporary Art CRT.

RESÒ is spelled phonetically from the French word reseau, meaning network, and it is used in order to focus on the territory's resources, cultural as well as social and artistic: a network of support for creative production in and with the region of Piedmont. In fact, RESÒ grows from a collaboration that, for the first time, brings together many of the major contemporary art institutions in Piedmont, then adds the support and participation of foreign institutions Capacete, Khoj and Townhouse Gallery.

With the participation of these many institutions, RESÒ calls for the creation of IN and OUT, an ongoing program of international residencies to promote the overall mobility of artists. The goal is to establish places for theoretical reflection and creative growth through which the presence of the artist will also become a stimulus for the surrounding community. Any region that hosts international residencies will reap cultural and social benefits.

RESÒ_1 (2010–2011) saw the start of the six residencies that form the IN and OUT programs. The IN program, clearly focused on activities within the Piedmont region, begins with residencies developed specifically by Unidee Cittadellarte (Magdi Mostafa from Cairo), Spinola Banna Foundation for Art (the Egyptian Amsterdam-based Dina Danish) and the PAV-Parco Arte Vivente (Amilcar Packer from Brazil). The OUT program, on the other hand, focuses on the three residencies developed separately by Townhouse Gallery (in Cairo with Alessandro Quaranta) and Capacete (in Rio de Janeiro with Irene Pittatore and Francesca Macrì; in San Paulo with Paola Anzichè).

RESÒ_2 (2011–2012) involves six international artists in residency at Unidee Cittadellarte (Sunil Vallu from New Delhi), CeSAC (Jasmina Metwaly from Cairo), Eco e Narciso (Beto Shwafaty from Rio de Janeiro), Khoj International Artists Association (Ottavia Castellina from Turin and London), Townhouse Gallery (the Italian Rotterdam-based Eva Frapiccini), and Capacete (the young but well-known couple Massimiliano and Gianluca De Serio).

Each artist is selected by a committee representing the institutions involved. During the six/nine weeks-long residency, the artists take part in meetings, panels, workshops and studio visits. Finally, the RESÒ resident artists are encouraged to produce artworks that reflect on the current definitions of learning, of knowledge and of community and practice, giving back his/her personal sight on the territory and the residency experience.

All the outcomes are collected, year by year, in the RESÒ traveling box, a suitcase inspired by Duchamp's Boîte-en-valise, a sort of archive of memories and traces that, with the instruction booklet, becomes an itinerant "do it yourself" exhibition (shown at Artissima_18 and 19 International Fair).
