Part-time, contract position available: Project Coordinator, CHIME in
Southern California (SC)
Work commences: September 1, 2012
Reports to: Jackie Bendzinski, Director of CHIME
CHIME (Choreographers in Mentorship Exchange) is a program of the
Margaret Jenkins Dance Company (Margaret Jenkins, Artistic Director).
Now in its eighth year in the Bay Area and its fourth year in Southern
California CHIME encourages mentoring relationships between
choreographers of different generations, providing stipends and paid
studio time for mentoring activities for one year, sponsored showings of
work investigated during the year of exchange, and regular meetings of
all involved in the program. More information about CHIME can be found

Under the supervision of the program Director, the SC Project
Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and implementing all
administrative aspects of the planning and execution of CHIME SC for the
Margaret Jenkins Dance Company (MJDC). Project Coordinator will work
from home. Work will be based in Los Angeles, requiring local, and if
needed, state-wide travel.
Responsibilities include:
* Manage and coordinate all local facets of the program, including
organizing all local logistics
* Identify and secure venues for informational sessions, meetings
and showings
* Assist artists in locating and securing rehearsal studios and act
as a liaison between the studios and the MJDC staff
* Track and process all artist reimbursement and vendor invoices,
including invoices for mentee studio time
* Provide the MJDC office with interim and final program reports
and financial reports, which include accounting for mentee studio time
and all expenses related to CHIME meetings and program activities
* Act as a liaison between the program artists and the MJDC office,
including the collection of artists' mid-year and final reports and the
scheduling of CHIME activities, events and program-related travel
* Identify individuals and groups for inclusion in meetings and
mailings, and act as the primary public contact for all local inquiries
about the program
* Assist in distribution of press releases, marketing materials and
public announcements, in collaboration with the MJDC staff and PR
Consultant
* Collect all print articles, reviews, previews and announcements
for archiving in the San Francisco office
* Assist as needed in the editing and publication of the program
guidelines and applications for the following program year
* Assist if needed in the panel meetings in San Francisco for
artist selection for the following program year
* Organize CHIME LIVE! end of year public showings, including
scheduling, venue rental, public relations, hospitality and artist
services
* Assist the MJDC development staff to identify, research and
cultivate potential foundation and individual donors for the program
* Support the Artistic Director and other staff, as necessary
Required Qualifications:
* Strong familiarity with the local Los Angeles County and
regional dance and performance community of artists, schools, venues and
cultural organizations
* Solid project and event management skills: ability to manage
time, work independently, multi-task and set priorities
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail
* Experience with production/event coordination
* Positive work attitude, flexibility and a willingness to learn
* Strong interpersonal skills: ease in interacting with diverse
groups of people.
* Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and in meeting
deadlines
* Excellent computer skills, especially proficiency with e-mail
and with relevant software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
* Have a valid California drivers' license, an understanding of
the local geography and a willingness to drive for work-related
activities
Preferred Qualifications:
* Enthusiasm for the arts and for dance
* Access to a car or personal transportation
* Familiarity with the community of arts and culture funders and
patrons in Southern California
