First held in 1978 the Cyprus College of Art Graduate Diploma in Fine Art is an eight month residency programme in Cyprus for people who want to explore their motivation for making art in the company other artists.
The programme is focussed on you as an individual and allows you to take your art work in new directions as appropriate. This could encompass elements of the cultural, historical and geographical environment of being in Cyprus, but that is not a requirement. Instead we ask you to explore your work and seek to extend its scope and quality.
In all of this you will be supported by a friendly community of artists who will give tutorial advice on an individual and group basis. Cultural studies sessions (art theory) are geared towards studio practise rather than being studied for their own ends, and at the end of the eight months you should emerge with a large body of new work, a renewed sense of purpose to your art and several exhibitions to your name.
Students on this programme can choose to study either in the village of Lempa or in the city of Larnaca.
Lempa is a small agricultural village where access to the studios is available 24 hours a day seven days a week. Living accommodation is provided rent free, so this is a real opportunity to focus solely on your art for an extended period of time in a bohemian environment.
Larnaca is a small but busy city, and our studio complex is more like a traditional art college. Studio access is available 24 hours a day seven days a week. We charge for living accommodation if you base yourself in Larnaca, with rent of a single bedroom in a shared house at 200 euro a month.
Wireless internet access is available at both Lempa and Larnaca, but at both sites the facilities are deliberately low tech to encourage innovation and creativity.
Both sites have a library and art shop on site, and an exhibition gallery. We encourage students based in Lempa to arrange exhibitions of their work in Larnaca and vice-versa.
The course fee for September 2012 to May 2012 is 2250 euro. This pays for studio use, tuition and assessment fees.
The programme is accredited in the United Kingdom and holders of the Graduate Diploma in Fine Art can undertake a three month top up course either in Cyprus or England to convert their Diploma into a University of Northampton MA Fine Art qualification. However this is an optional top-up and additional fees are payable.
Another optional course students can take on the course is a Preliminary Teaching Diploma (Post-16),
We receive students from all over the world, and in particular the UK, Ireland, the United States, Japan and Canada, and all tuition is in English.
The College has welcomed to Cyprus some of the greatest names in world art including Terry Frost, Euan Uglow, Rachel Whiteread, Anthony Caro and Clive Head and is a magnet for truly creative people seeking a truly creative environment.
