Are you interested in becoming the director of the regional art museum in southern Norway? As one of Norway's newest regional art museums, SKMU aims to be a leader in conveying contemporary art to the public. We are looking for a director who wants to take us to be one of the best art museums in Norway, and increase the number of visitors. SKMU Sørlandets Kunstmuseum seeks to both confirm and extend its role as a museum and as an active participant in the culturel society. SKMU is a large and exciting cultural institution in southern Norway.
The museum director has the super ordinate field-specific, financial and administrative responsibility for developing and running SKMU. Broad competence and a high-level of education in the field of art are prerequisites. We also require that the director have experience in museum operations or other forms of conveying art to the public.
We are looking for an engaged team player with strategic gifts, visionary, and with good communication and collaboration skills. Also highly valued are leadership qualities and administrative experience. SKMU Sørlandets Kunstmuseum has around 18 employees in different positions.
The prospective director should be able to prove his or her competence by pointing to past achievements. The director reports to the museum's board of directors.
SKMU Sørlandets Kunstmuseum
SKMU Sørlandets Kunstmuseum is a regional art museum for visual art and contemporary craft. The institution was established as a foundation in 1995 and receives funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, Aust-Agder County, Vest-Agder County and Kristiansand Municipality.
SKMU is one of the largest and youngest art museums in Norway. We have good facilities for exhibitions in three floors, and administration in top floor. Connected to the museums is also a popular museumshop and a museum cafè. One the best baristas in Norway is running the cafè.
The director will be engaged for a six year period and can apply to renew the contract for an additional six years. Negotiated salary. General information: a mandatory 2% of the gross salary is deposited in the Kommunal Landspensjonskasse (KLP, Life Insurance Company); first six months is a trial period.
