Deadline: Wednesday, May 18th by 6pm
Call for Art: The Aquarium of the Pacific is accepting images via JPEG format to be juried for its upcoming Urban Ocean Festival event. All submitted art pieces should fall under the theme of "Our Urban Ocean," which may include artwork about our ports, human uses of the ocean (i.e. scuba diving, water sports, beach activities), marine life affected by the urban ocean, and/or ocean pollution. The theme of your work should be how you see the urbanized coast and ocean and what it means to you. To be considered, art MUST be appropriate for a family audience.
Please note that if your artwork is accepted, we will require that you are available to be at the Urban Ocean Festival on both Saturday and Sunday, June 18 & 19, 2011.
Up to five submissions are welcome. There will be winners in each of the four categories, which will include painting/drawing, digital/photography, mixed media, and sculpture/3D. 1st place in each category will receive $500, and 2nd place will receive $250. One artist (selected from the first-place artists from each of the four categories) will then be selected as the Grand Prize winner and will receive an additional $250. Only the eight winners (1st and 2nd place for each category) will display their art at the festival.
"Urban Ocean Festival," held the weekend of June 18-19, 2011, will be a chance for families to explore and celebrate Southern California's Urban Ocean while learning about the human uses for the coastal ocean and the impacts on marine life. The weekend will include an art contest, poetry readings, food, booths, and educational activities.
Artists selected for this event may choose to sell their work onsite; please be advised that the Aquarium will charge commission.
Eligibility: The call is open to all emerging artists working in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura and San Bernardino counties. All forms of painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, digital, and installation art are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Jury: This is a juried exhibition. All submissions will be juried by a panel from the Long Beach arts community with a broad range of expertise.
Media: Drawings, printmaking, digital/new media, photography, painting, installation, sculpture, etc., are all possibly valid. Selected pieces must be ready to either display on easel or stand alone on the ground. No pieces will have hanging capabilities. Please note here will be no access to additional lighting.
