Open Call for Media Arts

NewTown will appropriate a two block length of South Lake Street in Pasadena and an area in Los Angeles that remains to be determined, each for one night presentations of a ”Pop-up” festival of media arts. There will be:

outdoor, sit-down space(s) for single screen projections with sound;
rear-projection sites in empty store fronts, silent;
space may also be available for media installations.

Project Date:

Late May, 2011
Proposal Deadline:

April 8, 2011. Submissions postmarked after that date will not be considered. Early submission is encouraged.
Honoraria:

$50, possibly more
Final Presentation Formats:

We will display either small gauge film (16mm, Super 8 or Regular 8mm) or Quicktime videos. If selected please send us your final format by May 1st. Installations will be on a case-by-case basis. We strongly urge installation applicants to contact us for information on sites prior to submitting proposals.
Submission Formats:

Juries will view DVDs (region 1 or 0 NTSC only), quicktime video on a data-DVD or a web video (i.e. youtube). Please make sure your video is working properly before submitting or your work might be rejected simply for technical reasons.
Installations:

Media Installations must be self-contained and installed by the artist(s) in limited time-frame. Installation must be removed same day.
Submission Limits:

Works submitted must be no longer than 15 minutes. Artists may submit a maximum of two works.
Submission Fees:

There is no fee for submitting a work.
Submission Deadline:

Artists may submit a maximum of two works.
Notification Date:

All artists who have submitted works for this event will be notified by e-mail by April 15th.
Required Documentation:

Each DVD or Installation submission must be accompanied by a printed information sheet including the full name(s) of the artist(s), mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, the full title and duration of the work, short biographical sketch(es) of the artist(s), and brief program notes.
