Visiting Scholar of Film & Media Studies at Occidental College

The Film & Media Studies Program in the Art History & Visual Arts Department
at Occidental College invites applications for

a visiting scholar for a 1-year full-time, terminal appointment. Candidates
must demonstrate a personal research emphasis in transnational/global media
and/or American media through a race/ethnic studies perspective.

The position entails teaching five courses including *Aesthetics of Cinema*,
*Topics in International Cinema*, and *Topics in American Cinema*, mentoring
3-4 critical thesis projects, and programming with students a semester of
the Oxy Cinematheque Screening Series around questions of “diversity and
representation.”

Occidental’s Film & Media program integrates theory and practice, and the
ability to engage both is particularly desirable, but a Ph.D. in hand and
demonstrated critical studies teaching experience is paramount. More

*Submission Procedures:* Candidates should electronically submit (1) a
current CV, (2) a letter of interest explaining areas of research and
interest in/preparation for teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts
environment, (3) a critical writing sample, and (4) a course syllabus from a
past class, to Broderick Fox (bfox@oxy.edu), along with (5) *two* letters of

*Deadlines and Start Date:* All materials must be received by April 15,
2011. 
 Position start is August 16, 2011 and includes medical benefits
