1. Since 2007, the Foundation's grant program has awarded 10-14 non-profit institutions annually with funds to support the production of new work by visual artists. In 2010 the Foundation initiated a thematic focus to explore the relationship between art and site in a dematerializing world. We are pleased to announce the 12 projects that received support:

2. In 2011, Harpo Foundation will continue the 2010 thematic focus but with a renewed emphasis on projects that directly address the interchange and dialogue between the existential and the virtual. Wanting to expand our understanding of the role each play in contemporary life, artistic projects that grapple with the dialectic between the non-locality of the digital world and the existential physicality of our everyday environment will be considered first. Projects that put these two worlds into dialogue with each other, so as to comment upon each other and allow the qualities of each experience to be illuminated, are of specific interest to the Foundation.

3. The Harpo Foundation Native American Fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center is being established to support the development of visual artists and the potential for inter-cultural dialog. Annually, two Native American artists living in the U.S. will receive a one-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center, which will include room and board, a private studio, and a 500 USD travel stipend.
Proposal Deadline: February 15 for a 2011 residency.
