Cornerstone Theater Company seeks a Production Manager for February
– May 2011 to work on "The Unrequited," a collaboration
with the diverse communities of Watts.
Cornerstone Theater Company is a multi-ethnic, ensemble-based theater
company. We commission and produce new plays, both original works and
contemporary adaptations of classics, which combine the artistry of
professional and community collaborators. By making theater with and
for people of many ages, cultures and levels of theatrical experience,
Cornerstone builds bridges between and within diverse communities in
our home city of Los Angeles and nation-wide. Our plays are performed
in non-conventional, site-specific spaces.
The Production Manager is responsible for the planning and physical
realization of the upcoming production; ensuring that all aspects of
the production are completed within budget, according to the designer's
and director's wishes, and in time for the first public performance as
well as coordinating restoration of the venue, equipment returns,
and/or storage and overseeing cost effectiveness and planning of the
entire production process. Responsibilities include:
* organizing the costing, purchase and transportation of all
production materials and the set(s) construction
* managing and strictly controlling the production budget as
set by the Artistic Director
* coordinating with and supporting the director and designers
* planning and producing detailed production schedules, taking
into account the availability and needs of the production's
creative team
* organizing and leading regular production meetings
* hiring and supervising all set builders, painters/scenic
artists and running crew
* overseeing the load-in and strike of the set, and all
technical elements and taking a hands-on role throughout
production week
* being available throughout the run of the production to deal
with any matters arising
* ensuring that the design complies with licensing and health
and safety regulations, that the theater is always a safe working
environment and that all persons follow the theater's health
and safety policy and procedures
* Scheduling rehearsals and performances
* Securing the rehearsal venue
* obtaining any required permits
* Assisting in creation of production budgets and supervising
allocations.
* Supervising technical elements of production including
rentals, purchases, construction, transportation and restoration
* Creating a final financial accounting of the show's expenses
The ideal candidate will have:
* theater production management experience
* superb management and communication skills
* excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* experience of working with small, tight budgets and bringing
projects in within budget
* eagerness to work on site specific productions
* vendor or personal contacts for realization of set design and
construction
* up to date knowledge of health & safety law and excellent
working practice, including experience of producing detailed risk
assessments
* flexible working hours
