Community Arts Resources is producing Los Angeles' first "ciclovía" -
a program that began 36 years ago in Bogotá and which has now spread
world-wide.
CicLAvia turns LA streets into safe, fun places for walking,
bicycling, jogging, and enjoying exciting outdoor activities. By
making some roadways temporarily car-free, CicLAvia opens 7.5 miles of
city streets to the public from 10am to 3pm on October 10, 2010. The
CicLAvia route stretches from Boyle Heights to East Hollywood.
We're looking to artists to make this first pilot event on 10/10/10 a
creative success and a model for future CicLAvias (we plan on many
more in 2011). This is a labor of love. A small group of committed
Angelenos dreamed of bringing this idea to Los Angeles and we managed
to raise some money and challenge the City of Los Angeles to match our
efforts. After two years of hard work, it's now just a week away!
We hope you might consider lending your creative talents to the day by
bringing your own artistic star power to CicLAvia on 10/10/10. We're
looking for strolling performances, processions, dancers in the
street, and anything else that moves along with the flow of CicLAvia's
thousands of participants. We don't have funds for artist fees - but
we hope you'll find inspiration in CicLAvia.
If you are interested in participating, you can be spontaneous and
just show up. If you let us know in advance, we'll do our best to
spread the word.
