Call for Art! The Aquarium of the Pacific announces a Call for Artists for a one-night event called "Night Dive."
Aquarium of the Pacific Background
The Aquarium of the Pacific is the fourth largest aquarium in the nation. It displays over 11,000 animals in more than 50 exhibits that represent the diversity of the Pacific Ocean. The Aquarium of the Pacific, which is visited by 1.5 million guests each year, has redefined the modern aquarium; it is a community gathering place where diverse cultures and the arts are celebrated and a place where important topics facing our planet and our ocean are explored by scientists, policy-makers and stakeholders in the search for sustainable solutions. Founded in June 1998, the Aquarium of the Pacific is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is proud to use the visual arts to support ocean conservation and stewardship.
Project Description
Night Dive, held on the evening of Friday, October 29, 2010, is an opportunity for adults 18 and over to explore the Aquarium after dark and to enjoy an exclusive evening of local music, art and culture. The previous Night Dive event held in January attracted 1400 guests and featured 50 art pieces.
The theme for the upcoming Night Dive's one-night exhibition is Metamorphosis. This Night Dive highlights our dynamic lives and how things change over space and time, through simplicity and complexity. All entries should relate to the theme.
Artists selected for this event may choose to sell their work onsite; please be advised that the Aquarium will charge commission.
Deadline: Monday, October 4, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
Eligibility: The competition is open to all emerging artists in Southern California. All forms of TWO-DIMENSIONAL AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, graphics, printmaking, and digital art are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Jury: This is a juried exhibition. All submissions will be juried by a panel of Aquarium staff and members of the Long Beach community with a broad range of expertise.
Scope of Work: This call is open to both 2-D and 3-D media, but we are by no means limited to traditional media. Sculpture, drawings, printmaking, digital/new media, photography, painting, etc., are all possibly valid. Selected 2-D pieces must be ready to display on easel.
