The Craft and Folk Art Museum seeks an
EXHIBITION AND PUBLICITY COORDINATOR
JOB SUMMARY
Coordinates the planning
process for changing exhibitions, installations and other museum projects that
support the mission such as educational programming. Works closely with Public
Relations firm and media to develop short and long range communication
strategies to maximize press coverage of museum’s activities and programs.
Responds to general press inquires.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director of
Public Programs, works with curators and Executive Director to coordinate all
aspects of exhibitions presented by the museum; maintains exhibition master
calendar; keeps records of past exhibitions/installations; works on potential
exhibitions; obtains information for proposed exhibitions; responds to and
maintains records of offers/proposals; organizes Exhibition Planning Team
meetings; works on long-range exhibition planning issues. Generates and
monitors personal service contracts for consultants, contract curators and
other exhibition workers. Coordinates exhibition calendar with museum’s master
calendar. Maintains exhibition and programming financial records—prepares
purchase orders and monitors costs to insure all costs are within budget. Works
with Curators and Director to draft media advisories, press releases,
newsletters and other PR materials. Coordinates distribution and media outreach
with PR firm.
REQUIREMENTS
Excellent computer skills
including knowledge of Word, Excel, Illustrator and project management
programs. Articulate communicator and excellent writer. Should be highly
organized, resourceful, dedicated, deadline oriented and able to work in a
fast-paced environment. Ability to meet deadlines, work both collaboratively
and independently, be both flexible and highly organized. Interact with
curators, contractors, visitors, volunteers and staff in an effective and
friendly manner. Effectively motivate and coordinate volunteers. Exercise sound
and independent judgment and show appropriate levels of problem-solving.
