The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), a consortium created to promote the Catalan language and culture internationally, has convened a competition to contract a project curator, to prepare an artistic proposal for the Catalonia and Balearic Islands participation in the 54th Venice Visual Arts Biennale 2011, within the Collateral Events programme.

The winning project will be selected by a jury, chaired by Vicent Todolí (ex-director of the Tate Modern), and whose members are: Bartomeu Marí (Director of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona), Laurence Rassel (Director of the Fundació Tàpies), Joan Fontcuberta (President of the Association of Visual Artists of Catalonia), Cristina Ros (Director of Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma), and David Bestué and Marc Vives (artists taking part in the international exhibition at the 2009 Venice Biennale).

The project competition is divided into three phases. The first, Participation, ends at 12 h (midday) on 30 August 2010. Participation in this phase requires the submission of a C.V. and a report that reflects general ideas for the proposal within the conceptual framework. The jury will select a maximum of five projects to go forward to the second phase, Ideas, during which the initial proposal will be developed. The third phase involves the contracting and execution of the winning project.
