Dear Colleague:
The fifth annual Everett M. Rogers Award for Achievement in Entertainment Education was a great success last September, and we are delighted to announce the sixth year of the Rogers Award.
The award, named in memory of internationally recognized communication scholar and former USC Annenberg School associate dean Everett M. Rogers, was presented in 2009 to Charles "Garth" Japhet, the creator of Soul City, a large-scale, highly effective multimedia entertainment education program in Southern Africa. Other previous winners are Mexican writer/producer Miguel Sabido, entertainment education scholar Arvind Singhal, Stanford University professor Albert Bandura and international entertainment educator and activist David Poindexter.
This year, the Award committee invites nominations of both creators (artists/producers) of entertainment education in the service of social improvement, as well as scholars or researchers who study the impact of these messages. Candidates will be evaluated based on one or more criteria that were hallmarks of Everett Rogers' career: scholarly achievement, contributions to the practice of entertainment education, and mentoring future researchers and/or practitioners. Since the award committee holds nominations in active status for a four-year period, all nominations will be considered by the committee during that four-year period, along with new submissions.
A completed nomination packet will include the following:
1. Nominee's resume, including presentations and publications;
2. Letter of nomination for a Rogers Award from a knowledgeable scholar or practitioner in the field of entertainment education explaining the excellence and innovativeness of the candidate's work; and
3. A copy of the publication or sample of the project for which the nomination is made.
Send all materials by Friday, July 9, 2010 to:
Christina Felix
USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center

We encourage you to meet or speak with the prospective nominee to obtain a more complete picture of the person before submitting a nomination packet. We also ask that you share the nomination letter with your colleagues in the field of entertainment education for their input.
Recipients of the Everett M. Rogers Award for Achievement in Entertainment Education will be recognized at the annual Sentinel for Health Awards event on September 22, 2010. The event is produced by the Hollywood, Health & Society program at the USC Annenberg's Norman Lear Center. The Sentinel for Health Awards brings together entertainment writers and producers who are recognized for health storylines that have potential benefit to audiences with entertainment scholars who are recognized for research that has potential benefit to other researchers, practitioners and audiences. In addition, the Rogers Award recipient will present his/her work at a USC colloquium for students and faculty, and will be invited to speak in classes as time permits.
You may read the call for entries press release below.
Please contact Christina Felix with any questions about the nomination process. Christina can be reached by email at cfelix.usc@gmail.com.
