Southern California Public Radio (SCPR), which operates 89.3 FM KPCC,
recently moved from its home on the campus of Pasadena City College to the
Mohn Broadcast Center & the Crawford Family Forum in Pasadena, California.
SCPR is embarking on a possible series of live play readings in partnership
with various theatre companies to be performed in the newly opened Crawford
Family Forum.
The Crawford Family Forum is a physical manifestation of SCPR’s mission to
strengthen the civic and cultural bonds that unite Southern California’s
diverse communities. The Crawford Family Forum will deepen and expand SCPR’s
role as a centering institution for Southern California by engaging people
of all backgrounds in ongoing, face-to-face conversations and explorations
of the most interesting and important issues, events and cultural
developments of the day.
The Crawford Family Forum can accommodate up to 120 audience members.
Proposals from local 501(c)(3) theatre and arts organizations will be
considered on a competitive basis. Interested companies are invited to
submit proposals of scripts to be performed as live staged readings with a
public audience and pre-produced sound effects, with performances between
June 1 and November 1, 2010. The selected companies will be responsible for
casting, rehearsals, and additional staff (director, stage manager, etc)
required for the reading, outside of house management/facilities support and
sound technicians. All performances will be recorded for possible
podcast/broadcast on one of KPCC’s multiple platforms. Preference will be
given to original work (including adaptations) and previously performed
pieces with secured rights that are of importance/relevance to Southern
California’s young and ethnically diverse audience.
