CALL TO ARTISTS

The newest cultural arts center to arrive on the Mississippi Delta scene "officially" opens Friday March 5th 2010; but is already having major impact on the people, the arts and the media throughout Mississippi. The House of Khafre (affectionately called "da' House") is located at the epicenter of where Blues (America's Root Music) was born, 103-105 Main Street, in historic downtown Indianola, Mississippi.

"da' House" is an entrepreneurial venture by two local cultural arts veterans C.Sade Turnipseed and Robert L. Terrell. This dynamic duo comes to this venture with active involvements in international and Mississippi-based community development projects, i.e., Khafre, Inc. Turnipseed a well known cultural arts advocate is pursuing a Ph.D., in Public History. Robert Terrell, of Terrell and Associates has an undeniable passion and incomparable resources in the music recording industry. Together they are spearheading a cultural arts movement, in the Mississippi Delta - called "Delta Renaissance."

Special features at "da' House"

1) African Art Boutique / Gallery featuring jewelry, clothing, quilts, fabrics, paintings, masks and sculptures from Africa. In the midst of "The African Art Experience," local artists are encouraged to submit their finest pieces for display along side the works of other world-renowned artists.
2) Restaurant and Juice Bar - "The Kitchen" featuring:
a. Warm-freshly baked Mississippi Teacakes in two scrumptious textures: "Mama Willie (soft) style & Bertha Mae (crunchy) style;
b. Daily lunch specials and Sunday brunches that are clean (grease-free), whole and often-vegetarian alternatives.
c. Beverages will include smoothies, specialty coffees and gourmet herbal teas.
3) Cultural Arts performance stage - "Front Porch" showcasing storytellers and performing artists from around the world. However, the goal is to feature every performing artist from right here in Mississippi. With commitments from WABG-TV the most watched television station; and, WGNL Radio the most listened to FM radio station in the Delta, to broadcast regular programs from the "Front Porch" stage€ ¦’¥it sounds like a hit!

"We are on a mission to bring a fresh energy and a homey vibe back to historic downtown Indianola, with arts and cultural performances. The name "KHAFRE" is important in African and world history. KHAFRE is the builder of the second pyramid in Egypt." Turnipseed said. "This is significant because we believe with the help of others in Mississippi and the Delta communities, we shall build monumental projects that will last forever,kind of like the pyramids." Terrell added.

Check out "da' House," for your upcoming special events.
