Producing Director Job Overview

Position Title:
Producing Director

Reports to:
Board of Directors, Artistic Director

Compensation:
Volunteer Position (Stipend range $4000-$8000 in FY’10)

Position summary:
The Producing Director is responsible for the production of all artistic events of the company, with fiscal oversight from the Managing Director and artistic oversight from the Artistic Directors. Also responsible for the production aspects of fundraising events. Serves on the Cabinet.

Average 20 hours per week (higher during production)
Requires evening and weekend hours, possibly late night

Supervises:
Event producers (i.e. Winterfest Producers, First Look Producers, etc.), Concessions Managers, Front of House Managers, Production Personnel (director, designers, crew, etc.)

Evaluation:
The performance of the Producing Director is evaluated annually by the Board of Directors according to a range of qualitative and quantitative performance measures agreed upon prior to the beginning of each new program year.

Experience/Skills:
In addition to a passion for theatre and commitment to the mission of EST-LA, we seek a self-motivated, well organized, detail oriented individual with demonstrated time management, leadership and managerial skills; a team builder with broad producing experience including “in-house” readings and workshops as well as 99-seat productions in Los Angeles in the $30,000-$60,000 range; experienced with financing, scheduling, budgeting, media buys, marketing and audience development, contract negotiation, union interaction, and artist interaction; familiarity with the Los Angeles theatre community, especially designers, stage managers, technical directors, other production staff, as well as other theatre producers, performance and rehearsal venues, and theatrical support organizations; familiarity with comparable theatrical productions.
