"Persephone Rising" is a small sculptural piece incorporating organic found materials (branch); silk leaf; wood box; super sculpy; acrylic paint; and pebbles.
Though Perspehone has been depicted in myths as being abducted against her will by Hades, the lord of the Underworld, in my interpretation, the bringer of new life (Persephone) and the bringer of Death (Hades) have a compassionate relationship. Neither subdued nor brutalized, Persephone rises to bring life to the world, lovingly bidding farewell to her husband and assuring him that after the fullness of summer has passed, she will return. www.sarahstone.typepad.com
