Bärbel Neubauer of Munich, Germany has made more than 40 animation films and experimental films since 1980, and she's been composing music, including music for films, since 1991. She works in such formats as 35mm cinema film, Quicktime movies for the internet, 70mm IMAX film, and live action/performance. Her films of the 90s, recipients of international recognition and awards, are mostly abstract animation films, painted and scratched directly on to 35mm film stock. In 1998 she created a direct on film handpainted 70mm IMAX animation film, "Sky," for the Large Format Conference in Los Angeles (Swell Productions). In 2001 she created a performance called "Waking Dream" in collaboration with the Canadian electronic engineer Sidney Fels and the Japanese dancer Sachiyo Takahashi. From 2000 on she has worked on experimental digital animated images and music.
Her abstract animation film Flockenspiel is a digital motion painting in 4 parts. She teaches experimental animation and music workshops and courses at colleges, universities and festivals in Europe and in the USA. She serves as a member of juries, and of selection committees, and presents her work at festivals and universities worldwide.
