The Salzburger Kunstverein seeks a new Director as of July 1, 2023.

The Salzburger Kunstverein is one of central Europe’s leading institutions for contemporary art. We present exhibitions of contemporary art, create engaging encounters with artists, and spur lively discussions about art, art theory, and cultural politics. The historic building “Künstlerhaus,” which is owned by the Salzburger Kunstverein, has three different spaces for exhibitions and houses 22 studios where artists and artist collectives work on site.

We now seek new leadership. The ideal candidate will be an experienced curator with extensive knowledge in contemporary art and with advanced organizational skills and business acumen. The new director will continue to successfully and creatively steer the Salzburger Kunstverein regionally, nationally and internationally by enriching it with a new approach and fresh perspective.

Responsibilities
–Conception and realization of an exciting exhibition and events programme on an international level in agreement with the Executive Board
–Management of the Künstlerhaus (administration of the building and studios for artists, tenants and cultural initiatives)
–Supervision of 10 employees
–Acquisition of funding, sponsorships and various subsidies
–Representation of the Salzburger Kunstverein in all essential matters internally and externally

Your profile
–Completed university studies in art history, fine arts, cultural management or comparable qualification
–Professional Curatorial experience
–Profound knowledge of national and international contemporary art and its discourses
–Experience in acquiring project-specific funding and in planning and managing institutional budgets
–Leadership and management experience in comparable organizational settings desired
–Knowledge of dealing with the public and familiarity with digital and social media
–Good social competence and communication skills with proven abilities with team leadership and excellent managerial skills
–Versatile German and English ability, as well as strong relevant writing skills
–Residence in Salzburg

We offer an attractive management position with great creative freedom in a temporary 5 year position with an option for extension. Minimum salary: 56.000 EUR, according to Fair Pay for Cultural Work.
