The ”la Caixa” Foundation launches its new call for applications for support to produce artwork.

The ”la Caixa” Foundation has opened its call for applications for Support for Creation ’22: Production, which aims to provide artists with funding and professional support to produce artwork. It is aimed at solo visual artists or groups of visual artists aged 18 or over, with Spanish or Portuguese nationality or residency, who already have a new project in mind or under way in collaboration with a third party (museum, gallery or other kind of art institution or platform) and who need support to produce a work of art.

This biennial programme of support forms part of the ”la Caixa” Foundation’s commitment to contemporary art, which includes its prestigious Collection of Contemporary Art, now well into its fourth decade, and its Support for Creation programme, which comprises, since 2012, the Comisart call for projects by young curators and, since 2018, the Production call for projects by artists.

Set up in Barcelona over a hundred years ago, the ”la Caixa” Foundation is now the leading private foundation in Spain and one of the most active worldwide. In the cultural sphere—often in collaboration with highly prestigious international institutions, including the British Museum, Centre Pompidou and Museo del Prado—the ”la Caixa” Foundation has introduced a unique model for advancing knowledge to as wide a range of audiences as possible, rooted in its concept of culture as a key tool for personal growth and social integration.

Support for Creation ’22: Production seeks to enable solo visual artists or groups of visual artists to produce a new work of art that will then be promoted, be it as part of an exhibition, at a venue belonging to a third party collaborating with the project or through some other means of promotion. The funding provided is broken down into two parts: artist’s fees and production costs. The work should be produced within the following two years after funding has been awarded. Once the work has been produced, it will be assessed by the Acquisitions Committee, which will decide whether or not to acquire it for the ”la Caixa” Collection of Contemporary Art.

The winning projects will be selected by a jury made up of three professionals from the international art world and a representative of the ”la Caixa” Foundation. The list of winners will be posted on the Foundation’s website in July 2022.

Projects may be submitted to Support for Creation ’22: Production until 5pm (Spanish peninsular time) on Monday April 25, 2022.

Full terms and conditions are available on the Foundation’s Call for Applications website.
