Recess seeks an experienced, creative individual to manage and further develop the ongoing artist initiatives of the organization. The Artist & Community Liaison is a key asset to Recess, envisioning and managing the Session and Critical Writing programs, as well as the integration of artists into all Recess activities and partnerships.

The Liaison’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Programs

Work with artists and staff to craft, plan, budget, facilitate, and manage all artist and writer programs

Maintain communication with artists, community partners, and youth to ensure that projects are realized to their potential

Draft, edit and collect written program material in collaboration with Communications Coordinator
Supervise and facilitate logistics of exhibition and event production

Perform and sustain outreach to artists, audiences and community partners
Craft, plan and research future projects, including those in the extension of the Session program
Develop program and audience engagement evaluations to measure program impact
Administer annual open call for applications

Engage an individual Assembly Peer Leader fellow by serving as a mentor

Work closely with Assembly program coordinators to facilitate ongoing collaborations between Peer Leaders and Recess artists

Attend and contribute to All-Team meetings including Assembly participants

External

Represent Recess offsite at events and in working groups

Research, steward, and nurture external partnerships

Develop new contacts and opportunities

Bring school groups and local partners to Recess programs

Fundraising and Communications

Work closely with the relevant staff to review program-specific grants and communications collateral

Support staff on community organizing and fundraising initiatives and events Art inventory, archive, and sales

Assist in production of commissioned artworks if applicable

Prepare and collect sales agreements and maintain inventory

Pack and ship print editions and other artworks

Archive all artist programs

Daily Operations

Along with the rest of the staff, maintain a clean space stocked with necessary supplies
Serve as liaison to Recess Building Manager, facilitating physical improvements to the space
Interface between artists, staff, visiting groups, Assembly youth and public
Monitor and respond to general email, phone, and walk-in inquiries

Requirements:

Self define as a mid-career worker with creative non-profit experience; directly in the field of socially engaged art practice a plus

Passion for the arts and innovative program development;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

Flexibility and strong ability to work both independently and on a team;

Ability to operate within a busy space while completing tasks;

Passion for and experience working with young populations;

Computer and online literacy and strong skills in Microsoft Office, Google Suite;
Demonstrated ability to work well with artists, arts groups, community partners, and key stakeholders (e.g. Board members, donors, community leaders, etc.);
Familiarity with New York City social practice arts community a plus

Reports to Co-Directors

Schedule: Full time; Tuesday through Saturday and occasional evenings and/or weekends as related to events and programs

Salary: Recess universal salary: 65k year 1; 70k year 2; option to renew contract
