Call for applications to three Directors’ positions

The Board of Administration of the Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki (MOMus) in Greece launches an international open call for expressions of interest to fill three positions of Directors, one for the Museum of Modern Art-Costakis Collection (herafter MOMusModern), one for the Museum of Contemporary Art – Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and State Museum of Contemporary Art Collections (hereafter MOMusContemporary), and one for the Experimental Center for the Arts (hereafter MOMusExperimental).

All posts are of full and exclusive employment, for a four-year tenure, with the option to renew for one further term in office.

Every person who has the qualifications required by law and the call has the right to participate.

Applicants must have at least the following qualifications:

Director of the MOMusModern
–University degree;
–a PhD or postgraduate degree from a university or equivalent degree from schools abroad, particularly in the history or theory of art or in aesthetic or cultural history or cultural management or museology
–at least five years of proven professional and research experience on issues of art and museum policy at a Museum of Modern Art or other related scientific or research center on modernism and/or art in general or in the context of an independent professional activity or a combination thereof
–very good command of Greek, English and at least one more language. Knowledge of Russian will be viewed particularly favorably

Director of the MOMusContemporary and Director of the MOMusExperimental
–University degree
–a PhD or postgraduate degree from a university or equivalent degree from schools abroad, particularly in the history or theory of art or in aesthetic or cultural history
–at least five years of proven professional experience in museum policy issues and the organisation of contemporary art exhibitions
very good command of Greek, English, and at least one more language

The application must be accompanied by:
–a detailed Curriculum Vitae
–a Proposal-Motivation Letter which must summarized the candidate’s vision for the Museum of his/her interest
–a solemn declaration that the impediments, incompatibilities and conflicts of interest specified herein do not exist

To validly submit their candidatures, it is not necessary for candidates to attach or submit their qualifications, certificates or other official documents or evidence confirming that their qualifications are met by another selection criterion in this call. However, for the purpose of their evaluation, they are required to specify the degrees, certificates and other such documents in their curriculum vitae. Degrees, certificates or other official documents or proof of qualifications or of meeting the selection criteria set out in this call for expressions of interest, which are not clearly and specifically stated in the curriculum vitae, will not be taken into account in evaluating the candidate, even if they are subsequently submitted.

Applications and accompanying documents must be submitted via email in PDF format to the email address info@momus.gr with receipt of a registration number. The following must be stated in the subject line: “Application to participate in the public call for the post of Director (name of the Museum).”

The deadline for applications is October 4, 2021 at 11:59:59pm EEST.

The Director of each Museum shall be selected following a public call and evaluation of the relevant applications by the Organisation’s Board of Administration and shall be appointed by decision of the Minister of Culture and Sport. The Artistic Committee, together with the General Director, may, if considered necessary by the Board of Administration, issue opinions on the selection of the Directors, after interviewing the candidates. Evaluation is carried out through the allocation of points to each candidate based on specific criteria concerning (a) academic qualifications and (b) professional experience and the exercise of duties from a position of responsibility.
