The MACTE Foundation announces an international selection procedure for a new Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACTE Museum) in Termoli, which is under the management of the Foundation. The aim of this procedure is to select a new Artistic Director who have the requisite art-history, cultural and curatorship expertise, as well as proven managerial and directorial skills.

The MACTE Foundation and Museum
The MACTE Foundation was born to promote art and culture and to enhance and manage the heritage of the Termoli Award collection. Established in February 2019, the Foundation sees the participation of the Municipality of Termoli and the private partner Emiholding spa.

Among its objectives, the Foundation aims to make the MACTE Museum a center of art and culture and initiatives that arouse the interest of the local and national territory through various activities.

Artistic Director (m/f)
The Artistic Director of the MACTE will be responsible for:
-Drawing up programmes of the Foundation’s activities, which must be supported by the opinion of the Scientific Committee, if any, before submitting them to the Board of Directors
-Drawing up the programme of “Termoli Prize” activities, which will be submitted to the Board of Directors for approval

Furthermore, the Artistic Director:
-Stewards long-term and temporary exhibitions
-Proposes a minimum of three temporary exhibitions per year to the Board of Directors for approval, in compliance with the agreed budget
-Supervises the drawing-up and publication of MACTE exhibition catalogues
-Organises and manages the “Termoli Prize”, which is held every two years, based on the guidelines provided by the Board of Directors May act as curator for one temporary exhibition per year
-Is responsible for implementing all programme activities and the entire cultural offering of the MACTE Museum
-Administers the Foundation’s offices and staff in relation to the Museum’s creative artistic and cultural activities
-Is accountable to the Foundation’s Board of Directors
-Ensures the deployment of the Museum’s collection and its accessibility by the general public in all forms
-Is responsible for collecting, setting up and updating inventories
-Submits proposals for expanding the collection, the cataloguing and materials restoration programme, the production of guidebooks, illustrated catalogues and creating other communicative and storytelling media regarding the museum and its exhibits
-Is responsible for collecting and processing statistical data on services and users, within the statutory restrictions on using and holding personal data
-Employs the services of the PR and communications agency appointed by the Foundation for all external communications
-Oversees programming and the formation of activities falling within the MACTE Music, MACTE Meetups and MACTE School programmes
-In accordance with the regulations in force, responds to requests from students and academics to have access to materials, grants authorisations to take photographs of materials held by the Museum and proposes to the Board of Directors that copies or reproductions be made

Duration
This role, which commences on September 2, 2020, is non-exclusive and will have a duration of three years, renewable under a comparable procedure.

Minimum requirements
Applications will be considered if the applicant can demonstrate that he or she:
-Has the requisite knowledge in the field of international contemporary art
-Has worked in identical or similar roles with comparable museum facilities or with public or private institutions engaged in contemporary art, with responsibility for managerial and curatorial affairs

The role requires proficiency in Italian and English. Therefore, all documents and activities in this procedure will be produced in Italian.

Applicants must meet all requirements laid down in this notice as at the application deadline.
Under Italian law, applications from any applicants who are legally or personally ineligible to perform the role cannot be considered.

Applications and accompanying documents must be delivered to Fondazione MACTE, Via Giappone snc, 86039 Termoli (CB), Italy, no later than 12pm on March 20, 2020. They may be sent by recorded delivery, certified email (fondazionemacte@pec.it) or hand delivered (Wednesday to Sunday between 10am-1pm/4-7pm).

Selection committee
All applications received and related documentation will be examined by a Committee chaired by the Foundation’s Chairman and also comprising Laura Cherubini, Vincenzo de Bellis and Andrea Viliani.
