FALL 2019 OPEN CALL

We’re excited to announce the OPEN CALL for the Fall 2019 Fellowship (http://www.culturepush.org/about-fellowships) for Utopian Practice. Now in its eighth year, the Fellowship has supported over 40 artists across New York City, including our first ever Fellowship Alumni Award announced this past Spring.

Artists and other creative professionals are encouraged to apply with ideas for projects that expand their practice beyond its traditional boundaries. This is a process-based Fellowship, and Culture Push will help Fellows develop big ideas that have practical and community-centered applications. We are looking for highly interactive projects that engage the public and push the boundaries of how art can exist in the public sphere and the current political climate of our city, nation, and world. The Fellows will have a year-long tenure that begins in the Fall of 2019, and each will receive logistical, institutional, and financial support.

The Fellowship was started in 2012 and provides an opportunity for artists and other professionals to experiment with new forms of civic engagement and social practice, through events, workshops, performances, digital platforms, and beyond. In these past eight years we have supported over 40 socially engaged projects that explore diverse subjects, from queer empowerment through creative movement; HIV activism and doula work across the five boroughs; trans and disability justice models of health, liberation, and fitness; pop-up portraiture studios and dialogue for long-term residents of heavily gentrified neighborhoods of Brooklyn; reimagining the waterways of NYC; crowdsourcing neighborhood information through public input of sense and experience; and re-envisioning abandoned space in the Bronx.

Submissions are due September 29, 2019 at 11:59pm
