apexart is looking for a Director for its Fellowship and Events Program. The Fellowship Program is a unique program which involves substantial international communication and planning of International and NY Fellowship Program, organization of Public Programs, as well as management of advertising and social media campaigns, and participation in related fundraising. Founded in 1994, apexart is a not-for-profit arts organization that presents exhibitions in New York and internationally; operates a “cultural immersion” Fellowship program (as opposed to a studio program); hosts events and public programs; and publishes books on timely issues in the arts. A demonstrated academic or arts therapy background and an attention to performance and detail a plus. Cultural interest and sensitivity a must.

The schedule for the Fellowship and Events Director is Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–6pm, with some evening special events. Salary 55–60,000 USD depending on experience; plus monthly insurance premium contribution of 500 USD, a 401k match of 3%, monthly MTA pass, and other benefits. The Fellowship and Events Director reports daily to the Executive Director and Operations Director.

Specific responsibilities include:

–Identify recommenders for individuals as per apexart guidelines, in countries around the world (for NYC fellows) and in New York City (for International Fellows).
–Create and supplement programming for 8 NYC Fellows and 5 International Fellows each season including daily schedules, travel, budget, and organize outreach meetings with Fellows.
–Follow up on communication with past Fellows, analysis of data from survey responses and research.
–Identify possible sources of additional funding such as consulates and corporate entities that are related to each Fellow.
–This is not a studio program and there is no networking or promotion of the Fellow. It is a program of personal growth, self inquiry, and experience for the Fellow.

Public programs
–Coordinate with exhibition curators to organize several public programs in conjunction with all apexart exhibitions, both in NYC and locations around the world.
–Work with event participants to ensure equipment and other presentation needs are addressed.

Press relations
–Contact major and secondary media outlets and art listings in advance of all exhibitions and public programs to promote attendance.
–For each exhibition and public program, research a targeted list of individuals and organizations that might be interested in the topic.
–Maintain online and print advertisement schedule and secure ads.
–Similar promotion as necessary for Fellowship program.
–Maintain and post to apexart’s Social Media accounts.

Requirements
3 years academic or field work experience and a background in arts administration or arts therapy. Excellent interpersonal skills and writing abilities necessary. Proficiency in Google apps, social media understanding and posting, and internal office messaging systems a must.
