FLAT – Fiera libro arte Torino is the new international event dedicated to contemporary art publishing. Its first edition will take place from November 3 to 5 at Palazzo Cisterna—a 2000 square meter building in the historical 17th century palace located in the city center—with the support of Lavazza, who with its partnership confirms, once again, its commitment to arts and culture.

FLAT Founders Chiara Caroppo, Beatrice Merz and Mario Petriccione are sided by a Scientific Committee made up of Liliana Dematteis, gallerist and collector, Richard Flood, Director of Special Projects and Curator At Large, New Museum New York, David Senior, Senior Bibliographer, Museum of Modern Art Library, New York; Ken Soehner, Chief Librarian, Watson Library, MET New York, Lawrence Weiner, artist, New York, who generously designed the FLAT logo.

The new Fair will take place during the Artissima week thus validating its artistic and contemporary vocation, and duly complementing the range of cultural and artistic events in Torino with an innovative project. In fact, FLAT intends to offer a space for promoting the finest international production of exhibition catalogs, monographs, essays, artists' books, rare and out-of-print editions and magazines, while presenting a valuable show for leading publishers and small, independent presses, artists, collectors and bibliophiles from all over the world.

Accompanying the Fair is an extensive cultural program exploring the state of the international art publishing industry, alongside the practices and issues within the art-book culture. The exhibitions will be curated by Elena Volpato, art historian, conservator and curator at GAM Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, Turin, whereas the series of conversations will be curated by Francesca Valentini, researcher and curator based in Cologne.

The FLAT debut will feature two significant initiatives supported by CRT Foundation for Modern and Contemporary Art: on the one hand, the establishment of the FLAT Prize - CRT Art Foundation—to be assigned by an appointed committee to a publishing project selected from the Fair, and to be realized the following year—and on the other, the establishing of the Fondo Giorgio Maffei—a fund dedicated to the great collector, bibliophile, and enthusiastic expert of rare books on 20th Century Art that will allow a number of acquisitions to be included in one of Turin's museums.
