Family Programs Amphitheater Coordinator

Limited-Term Summer Position

Description:

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks to identify an independent contractor
to oversee weekend performances presented in the Skirball Cultural
Center 's outdoor amphitheater adjacent to and programmed in
connection with Noah's Ark at the Skirball, the institution's
interactive destination for children and families.

The contract covers weekend programs spanning June 17–September 1,
2013. Applicants must be able to work 6.5 hour days each Saturday and
Sunday for the duration of the season, amounting to approximately
thirteen hours per week.

Responsibilities:

* Assist Head of Family Programs with coordination of and logistics
for all family programs presented in the amphitheater during the 2013
season.
* Run all weekend amphitheater programs for the duration of the
season.
* Act as liaison between the Skirball and performing artists or
groups to ensure that all needs on the day of the performance are
addressed and met.
* Work with the Program Department to coordinate ordering additional
equipment and flooring for the Amphitheater when necessary.
* Produce each performance, including creating daily signage, setting
up sound equipment, greeting artists, working with visitors, and
overseeing each performance to completion.
* Represent the Skirball to the public.
* Work with Education staff to help coordinate audience and traffic
flow.
* Assist with coordinating substitute artists if necessary.
* Prepare notes evaluating the success of each performance based on
attendance and response, traffic flow, and level and duration of
audience engagement. Share observations and offer recommendations to
Head of Family Programs for improvement in program execution as
appropriate.

Qualifications:

§ Experience running and tech-directing performances, including
setting up, operating, and troubleshooting sound equipment.

§ Ability to work well with artists, Skirball staff, and the public.

§ Excellent communication and organizational skills.

§ Ability to work in a fast-paced, multisensory, stimulating work
environment.

§ Ability to problem-solve independently as well as collaboratively
with other staff.

§ Ability to work directly with museum visitors of all ages and
diverse backgrounds.
