The Metro Art program seeks highly motivated and qualified individuals interested in public sector internships for students pursuing careers in public art, conservation, arts administration, architecture, landscape architecture and design fields, transportation and urban planning and related fields.

Metro Art involves artists in a variety of permanent and temporary projects throughout the Metro system with the objective of making mass transit more welcoming to commuters and communities. For more information about Metro Art and the Metro system visit www.metro.net/art.

Eligibility
• Officially enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum of 12 units for an undergraduate program or 6 units for a graduate program.
• Must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for those enrolled in an undergraduate program and 3.0 for those enrolled in a graduate program.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and eligible to work in this country as determined by the U.S. Immigration Laws and the Department of Homeland Security.

Qualifications
Interns should be flexible, organized, familiar with office practices and procedures, comfortable in dealing with the public and capable of juggling multiple assignments. Strong writing and communication skills are desirable. Applicants should be proficient in basic computer skills, including Word and Excel programs. Some experience in the arts or a demonstrated interest is a plus. Graduate student preferred.

Internship Description
Depending on the skill level and interests, internship may comprise any of the following activities, singly or in combination:
• Assist in development and implementation of program guidelines, strategies and policies
• Assist in collections management and conservation maintenance of artworks in the Metro system
• Research and survey national policy issues; produce summary assessments
• Assist with customer and artist inquiries and distribute Metro Art promotional materials
• Support Metro Art managers on artist selection panels
• Support Metro Art managers on community outreach efforts
• Research art/architecture materials and fabrication/construction processes
• Maintain and further develop database for different Metro Art programs
• Assist in general departmental support activities

Hours/Fees
Metro requires a minimum commitment of 16-20 hours a week and cannot usually exceed 1,500 hours per year. Graduate students are paid $12 per hour; undergraduate students are paid $10 per hour. Interns ride for free on the Metro rail and bus system. Metro does not provide benefits, vacation pay, holiday pay or overtime pay for interns.
