MFA Art Practice is a low-residency, cross-disciplinary graduate program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Students spend three summers on our Chelsea, NYC Campus, and engage in a rigorous rich-media online curriculum in the intervening semesters.

We encourage artists to pursue their practice by engaging an idea first, and then developing a plan that may involve a combination of media, technologies and techniques. Our aim is to create a global community and conversation within the arts. To that end, we have students participating in the program from China, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iceland and Venezuela, as well as across the United States.

Faculty members include: David A. Ross, Suzanne Anker, Dara Birnbaum, Kathy Brew, Eric and Heather ChanSchatz, Laura F. Gibellini, Thyrza Nichols Goodeve, Daniel Kunitz, Steven Henry Madoff, Ernesto Pujol, Sarah Sharp, Gary Simmons, Stefan Saffer, Elisabeth Sussman, Jovana Stokic, Mark Tribe and Robin Winters. Visiting artists, guest lecturers and mentors include: Vito Acconci, Cory Arcangel, Liam Gillick, James Gleick, Dan Graham, Natalie Jeremijenko, Terence Koh, Mingwei Lee, Maria Nordman, Izhar Patkin, Martha Rosler, Tim Rollins, Lorna Simpson, Philippe Vergne, Cecilia Vicuña, and Carrie Mae Weems.
