Job: Handwork/Textile Arts Teacher for Middle School

Environmental Charter Middle School is seeking a teacher for our handwork/arts class. The class meets Tuesdays through Fridays through June 2013. 8-16 hours of instruction between the hours of 10 and 3— exact schedule is to be determined. Position could be shared.
One Monday morning teacher meeting per month.

Instructor will need experience teaching upper elementary or middle school students, the ability to manage a classroom of 25-30 students and knowledge of the practical arts. This course supports our study of middle school academic standards (history, science, language arts, and math) through handwork and art. Sample activities might include papyrus-making to support the study of Ancient Egypt, weaving to support our Ancient Greece unit, or drawing circles free hand and with homemade protractors to support a geometry unit.

ECMS's educational program is interdisciplinary, project-based and environmentally-themed. Our school community is small and collaborative. The position is currently part-time, but has the potential to become full time.

ECMS is located in Inglewood and moving to new LEED-inspired Gardena site in Spring.
