Participate in ARTmageddon: Less Car. More Art.

Calling all artists, arts organizations, and venues... Let's throw a citywide art party!

This fall, the media, city officials, metro, and pretty much everyone else in Los Angeles will all be talking about one thing: Carmageddon II, coming to a freeway near you September 29 & 30, 2012.

So how about we invite Los Angeles to stay off the freeways, and walk, bike or Metro to art in their own neighborhoods?

ARTmageddon can be our response to Carmageddon II. With everyone avoiding their cars, it is the perfect time for you to extend an invitation to your neighbors to visit your venue; a perfect chance for us to piggyback on all the surrounding media hype; and a perfect opportunity for Los Angeles residents to experience local art.

We want you—and your art—to be a part of this strategy. We're building and marketing a website that will house a comprehensive list of what's happening and where during Carmageddon II. Through www.ARTmageddonLA.com, Angelenos will discover YOUR VENUE and YOUR ART.

Please contact Camille Schenkkan and Lyn Cowan, artist & organization liaisons, at join@artmageddonla.com to learn more and join this collaborative effort. Participation is free and open to all.

Together we can get everyone talking about "ARTmageddon weekend," and exploring the great exhibitions, screenings, performances and concerts happening in their neighborhoods. ARTmageddon partner advocates include LA Stage Alliance, ForYourArt, and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs; event data will be fed to the new website via ExperienceLA; and we're already implementing a PR strategy to get the word out to our communities and beyond.

Who are "we?" A volunteer group of arts lovers interested in bringing together the Los Angeles arts community, and introducing new audiences to your art. Our planning team includes staff at large and small arts organizations from across the greater LA area, spearheaded by Diana Wyenn, the marketing and media relation manager for REDCAT.

We hope you'll join us and look forward to hearing from you.
