Metro is looking for a versatile copywriter to contribute writing and editorial services with a specialty in creative content. Copywriter will develop and edit content for the metro.net website and The Source, the agency's blog following transit, traffic and the path towards regional mobility.

Approved in 2008, Measure R will help fund dozens of critical transportation corridor projects over the next 30 years. Metro is seeking a copywriter with a creative content publication record and social media savvy to provide key communications about art and design projects aimed at improving the transit rider experience and increasing ridership. This opportunity is ideally suited for arts, design and culture writers with newspaper, magazine or online journalism experience.

General responsibilities

* Communicate with customers and the general public about Metro's award winning art and design program
* Help develop, support and protect Metro's brand by cultivating positive messaging and meaningful relationships with our online community
* Interview artists, designers, Metro staff, customers and others as required in the course of researching and reporting on topics for web posts
* Research, write, edit and proofread materials for online publication and social media
* Edit online copy for accuracy, grammar and style and to establish a consistent message and voice
* Submit blog entries per Metro's direction and specifications for approval prior to posting
* Source and edit images
* Tag and title content to assist with and maximize search efforts
* Ensure compliance with all copyright and trademark issues
* Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives to obtain information for reporting on the Metro website
* Coordinate multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
* Report to Creative Services Manager or designee
* Comply with all of Metro's safety rules, policies and procedures
Qualifications

* Experience covering art, design or cultural events for print or online news sources
* Exceptional traditional writing and grammatical skills
* Flair for crafting a story around a visual narrative
* Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to present ideas and information clearly to arts and non-arts audiences
* Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
* College degree preferred in visual arts, liberal arts, journalism or applicable field
Deliverables

* Cover Metro creative projects and programs, coordinating all assignments with the Creative Services Manager
* Personally research, write and submit approximately 3-4 posts per week for the blog or equivalent materials for metro.net
* Edit existing website copy
* Commit 16-20 hours per week with occasional visits to the Metro headquarters building in Downtown Los Angeles
* Participate in developing material for expanded use on Metro's website as appropriate
* Appropriately coordinate and obtain approvals in order to comply with all Metro website-related procedures
Compensation

* Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and experience and subject to negotiation with Metro
* Services are provided as an independent contractor and do not include employee benefits

* Experience and writing samples (70%)
* Hourly rate (20%)
* Availability (10%)
