Call for Art: The Aquarium of the Pacific is accepting images via JPEG format to be juried for its upcoming Urban Ocean Festival event. All submitted art pieces should fall under the theme of "Our Urban Ocean," which may include artwork about our ports, human uses of the ocean (i.e. scuba diving, water sports, beach activities), marine life affected by the urban ocean, or ocean pollution. The theme of your work should be how you see the urbanized coast and ocean and what they mean to you. To be considered, art MUST be appropriate for a family audience.

Please note that if your artwork is accepted, we will require that you are available to attend the Urban Ocean Festival all day on both Saturday and Sunday, May 5 & 6, 2012, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Up to five submissions are welcome. There will be winners in each of the three categories, which will include painting/drawing, digital/photography, and mixed media/sculpture/3D. First place in each category will receive $500, and second place will receive $250. One artist (selected from the first place artists from each of the three categories) will then be selected as the Grand Prize winner and will receive an additional $250. Only the six winners (first and second place for each category) will display their art at the festival.

The Urban Ocean Festival, held the weekend of May 5 & 6, 2012, will be a chance for families to explore and celebrate Southern California's Urban Ocean while learning about the human uses for the coastal ocean and the impacts on marine life. The weekend will include an art contest, poetry readings, food, booths, and educational activities.
