Art contest at the 3rd Annual East Hollywood ArtCycle!

EAST HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (Sept. 9, 2011) -- Organizers of the third annual East Hollywood ArtCycle are calling out to artists to compete in a juried art contest at the event. ArtCycle happens on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2 to 10 p.m., at Santa Monica Blvd. and Vermont Ave.

The first East Hollywood Outdoor Painting Award competition asks artists to create a work of art with the neighborhood of East Hollywood as their inspiration. Entries will be judged by a panel experts from the Los Angeles arts scene.

"This will be the first juried art contest to be held at the ArtCycle," said event co-producer Jennifer Moran. "The contest is our way of elevating artists in our community and bringing attention to their work."

The grand prize winner takes home a $200 gift certificate from the Blue Rooster art supply store in Los Feliz Village, and the winning art work will be displayed in the office of Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti. Two runners up will each receive $100 gift certificates from Skylight Books.

There is no fee to participate. Artists must begin with an empty canvas no earlier than 2 p.m. and finish their work by 6 p.m. Event organizers must affix a stamp to competitors’ blank canvases between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Contestants must be 16 years or older and may enter only one work for judging. Artists are required to remain in a designated work area until their work is complete. All media and techniques are accepted. Maximum panel, paper, or canvas size is 20 x 24 inches. Artists must bring their own materials and surfaces. Only blank surfaces are accepted.

Winners will be announced at the ArtCycle event at 8 p.m. Artworks will be shown to the public until 9 p.m.
