2006 Music Business Seminar
Saturday, October 28, 2006
9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
LA Music Academy

This is a daylong seminar aimed to educate emerging musicians and entertainment attorneys about relevant legal issues affecting artists and entertainers. Speakers are experts in each of these fields, including music executives,
musicians and attorneys. This annual seminar will consist of a keynote address and four panel discussions entitled:

MARKETING YOUR MUSIC ONLINE
Nowadays, musicians have several options on how to get their music heard without assistance from a record label. This panel will include several
representatives of the "online music boom" and how musicians can make the most of their options online.

MUSIC RIGHTS IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Numerous legal issues surround musicians that have broken into or are in the process of breaking into the entertainment industry. Thus, five panelists including lawyers and business affairs representatives will overview basic
concepts including copyrights, contracts, and general advice on how to protect your music this day and age.

TURNING YOUR MUSIC INTO MONEY IN THE DIGITAL AGE: PUBLISHING & LICENSING REVENUE STREAMS
Every musician dreams of turning his or her life's work into money that he or she can make a living off of. This panel will summarize the process on how signed musicians go about collecting compensation, royalties, and other
revenues in return for their work.

GETTING YOUR BAND SIGNED - A&R PANEL
Before anyone can make money off of their music, they have to get signed first! Thus, the Artists and Repertoire Panel will include several record label representatives who will describe the "spark" or "X-factor" that they look for which gets particular individuals, groups, or bands signed to a contract with their respective companies.

Attendees will also be provided with a handbook of useful information including forms, sample contracts and relevant articles. Light Breakfast will be served, but lunch is on your own.
