FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDS AVAILABLE TO PRESERVE JOBS IN THE ARTS IN LOS ANGELES

Applications Available July 14

Application Deadline August 17

Grant Awards Announced by October 1

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the City of Los Angeles
Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) have each received $250,000 in
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds from the National Endowment
for the Arts (NEA). In accordance with the NEA guidelines, these funds
will provide grants to nonprofit arts organizations in the region to
preserve jobs in the arts sector. These local arts agencies were the
only two that received funds to re-grant in the state of California.

Arts organizations eligible to apply for NEA Recovery Funds from the
Arts Commission or DCA must have:

* Received a Los Angeles County Arts Commission Organizational Grant
Program 2.5 award in FY 2007-08 or FY 2008-09 or FY 2009-10 (indicated
by a contract number that ends with "0708" or "0809" or
"0910"), and/or * Received a DCA small, mid-size or large
budget organization grant award in FY 2007-08 or FY 2008-09 or FY
2009-10. In addition, DCA is prioritizing applications from arts
organizations that have lost revenue due to the Los Angeles Unified
School District's freezing of its Arts Community Partnership Network
(ACPN) as well as from Arts Service organizations. Arts organizations
eligible to apply to DCA must have a most recently completed fiscal year
budget of between $20,000 and $1.5 million and be headquartered in the
City of Los Angeles.

Combined, the two agencies anticipate awarding approximately 25 grants
ranging from $15,000 to $45,000 each.

Eligible projects are limited to salary support, full or partial, for
one or more positions and/or contractual fees for personnel (not
including artists) that are critical to an organization's mission and
that are in jeopardy or have been eliminated as a result of the current
economic climate. Salaries, wages, fringe benefits, and fees that are
incurred in connection with development or fundraising are not allowable
project expenses (for this program or any other federal funded grant
making program).

The Arts Commission and DCA have designed a collaborative grant
application and review process to maximize the impact and ensure rapid
deployment of Federal funds in the region. These arts agencies are using
one electronic application form and all applications will be reviewed by
the same peer grant review panel. Eligible organizations need to submit
only one application to apply for funding.

The Recovery Funds grant application, guidelines and grant workshop
details can be found on the Arts Commission's Web Site,
www.lacountyarts.org or the DCA's
Web Site, www.culturela.org . The deadline
for applications, which are submitted electronically, is Monday, August
17, 2009 at 11:00 p.m. Potential applicants are urged to read the
guidelines thoroughly. Questions should be addressed to either the Arts
Commission at grants@lacounty.gov or the
DCA at dca.grants@lacity.org.

A Grant Workshop on how to apply to Recovery Funds will be held on
Thursday, July 23, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Japanese American
Cultural and Community Center, 244 South San Pedro Street, Los Angeles,
CA 90012. Representatives from arts organizations that are eligible to
apply for funds are encouraged to attend.

The California Arts Council (CAC) received $502,400 of Recovery Act
funding from the NEA to redistribute to California arts organizations to
sustain jobs in the arts and creativity sector. CAC Arts Recovery Grant
applications will be available on July 23, 2009, with a deadline date of
August 24, 2009. Arts organizations eligible to apply for CAC Recovery
Act funds must be a qualified CAC grantee in any given year since
2002-2003. A list of organizations eligible to apply for CAC Recovery
