Call for Entries: LAAA'S OPEN SHOW--Deadline 10/18/08

Eligibility: Competition open to all artists living in Southern California. Entries must be work created within the last three years.

Media: All media. No craft or functional pieces. *For video: please send 1/2” VHS,NTSC or DVD and make sure tape or disc is cued. Accepted video artists must provide their own equipment/monitors, projectors, VHS, DVD player, etc.—and tapes/discs must be set up for continuous play.

NEW THIS YEAR for video artists: All selected video entries will be screened at the Democracy Forum at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy auditorium (NOT Gallery 825) in January- Date TBD. If selected, your video submission may also be included in the gallery 825 exhibition.

Fees: Non-members: $30 for up to 3 entries; each additional entry is $10. Members: $20 for up to 3 entries; each additional entry is $5. Limit of 5 entries per person. Details of work limited to 2 per entry. Make checks payable to LAAA, do not send cash. Entry fees are non-refundable. Entry: Juror will review only Digital Printouts of artwork. NO ACTUAL ARTWORK WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE JUROR prior to selection process. Entries must be printed on photo-quality paper and presented in a 3-hole-punched plastic sheetprotector. All information including name, title, date, medium and dimensions must be written on the bottom right corner of the image side of the page. (Please indicate “top” of each submission) Improperly labeled entries may be rejected. LAAA is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. Do not send resumes, bios or artist statements. ENTRIES MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY REGISTRATION FEE AND COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORM. All entries become property of LAAA. No entry materials will be returned. Printouts of accepted work may be used by LAAA for press and promotional materials.

Delivery of accepted work: Accepted work must be available December 6, 2008 - January 17, 2009. Work must be delivered to the gallery on Saturday, December 6, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. All work must be properly framed and/or and ready to hang (no saw tooth or clip-on hangers, no exceptions). If works require specific hardware, that must be provided when work is delivered. Glass may not be used in metal frames exceeding 24”. Sculptures must not exceed 100 lbs. At the juror’s discretion, work that is dirty, in disrepair or otherwise deemed unfit for display may be excluded from the show. All decisions of the juror are final. Work must be Unwrapped by artist upon delivery. LAAA will not store any packing materials.

Sales: All work will be offered for sale unless indicated “NFS.” All must work must be priced to include LAAA’s 40% commission. Payment for sales will be sent to artists 30 days after the close of the show.

Awards will consist of cash and gift certificates for art materials and/or art related services. Award recipients will be selected by juror.

Liability: Neither LAAA, its staff, Board nor anyone connected to the exhibition is responsible for any loss, damage, breakage or theft of artwork while at the gallery. Your entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with these terms and conditions as set forth herein.
