Call for Mural Artists

LA Commons South LA Alleys Mural Project

LA Commons is searching for 3 mural design artists
to work with a core Youth Arts Team

(Age 15-25) to collect community stories,
attend a neighborhood story summit and to design murals, in scale, for three
South LA Alley ways. Three artists will each work with a small team. Youth Arts
team members will meet weekly and be paid a stipend for their work. LA Commons will coordinate project partners,
supply acquisition, workshop space and recruiting the Youth Arts team. One lead artist will be hired to work with
the team. Part Three of the project –
painting the murals will be a separate project and contract.

Angelou HS

The Role the Lead Artist/Designer in
this project will be:

To participate in story/image gathering
process and events with the group to inform the designs for the murals
To mentor the Core Youth Arts team to foster
youth in the development of skills in mural design
To lead team in the creating and completion
designs and design revisions for the murals.

2016 Timeline

Late March-Orientation

April – Story Gathering
and Design

May – Complete final
designs

Experience in visual arts
and public art

Experience working with youth and community
Familiarity and experience with South LA
Bilingual Spanish/English speakers preferred

Compensation

$1500 stipend for each artist
