BAC – Baltic Art Center in Visby, Sweden is recruiting a new Artistic Director to run and develop the organization's international residency programs and its function as a production platform. BAC has an international profile and runs a variety of different residency and production programs. As a place for production of contemporary art and for its mediation, BAC plays an important role in Gotland, as well as in the Baltic region and internationally.

The organization operates as a work place and a production office, offering residencies for artists, curators and contemporary art writers. BAC has no permanent studios or exhibition spaces, but tailors the conditions for the residencies in close dialogue with the invited artists. In addition, BAC continuously organizes a number of discursive projects with the goal of strengthening BAC's profile as an innovative and experimental institution for artistic production.

BAC was founded in 1999 and is a foundation run by a board with financial support from, among others, Region Gotland and the Swedish Arts Council.

For the position as Artistic Director we are looking for a person with visions and a firm commitment to develop the conditions of artistic production. The successful applicant will be expected to further develop the institution's artistic profile. BAC already has a combined Site Manager and Project Coordinator who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organization including overall financial responsibility, while the bookkeeping is outsourced.

BAC is looking for someone who:
–has a Masters degree in art history, curating or fine art or similar relevant qualification and/or at least 3 years experience in working with contemporary art
–has documented experience in securing project-specific, third-party fundraising
–has a documented success in curating and producing contemporary art projects, as well as a firm knowledge of organization management
–is well-informed on the international contemporary art scene and has an extensive international network
–has visions, commitment for the future program of BAC and is able to contribute to the center's development on a high international level
–has a keen interest in the arts and culture scene of Gotland and the BSR
–has the ability to network with stakeholders and various institutions
–is enterprising, independent and possesses excellent communication and collaborative skills, and is well-versed in media strategies including social media

The position is part-time (50-75%), with a start date October 1, 2016, and a two-year contract with the possibility of a two-year extension. Permanent place of residency in Visby is preferred, but not obligatory. Spoken and written Scandinavian language is preferred, but not obligatory. Salary to be negotiated according to prior experience.
