Tate is seeking to appoint the next Director of Tate Modern, succeeding Chris Dercon, following the opening of the new Tate Modern in June 2016.

Tate Modern is the world's most visited contemporary art gallery. One of Tate's family of four galleries, and currently attracting a broad and diverse audience with over 5.5 million visits a year, the new Tate Modern will open in June 2016 with 60 percent more display space, presenting an even more diverse and international perspective on modern and contemporary art.

Leading this great national and international institution, the new Director, working closely with Tate's Director, Nicholas Serota and other Tate colleagues, will have the principal responsibility for the artistic vision of the Gallery. Building on the success of Tate Modern to date, they will ensure that the Gallery is at the leading edge of practice as an art museum in the 21st century in terms of its public programmes, scholarship and learning experiences, reaching out to growing and more diverse audiences. In addition, the Director will have a Tate-wide role and will be expected to play a leading part in revenue generation and other initiatives designed to ensure Tate's continued relevance and success.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a creative, inclusive, entrepreneurial and visionary leader. You will have artistic vision, excellent leadership skills and a real desire to work collaboratively with the team at Tate Modern and colleagues across Tate. You will be a recognised authority on aspects on international 20th century and contemporary art with a knowledge and interest beyond the Western tradition. You will have the ambition, working with colleagues, to take Tate Modern forward in its new and extended form.
