The Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg, founded in 1662 as the first art academy in the German-speaking world, regards itself as a creative laboratory. Teaching focuses on fine and applied arts.

For the winter semester 2015/2016 applications are requested for the following post with a tenure of three years:

Professor of Artistic Concepts/Art in Public Spaces
Salary Level W2

Candidates should be artists of international repute with an excellent body of work in both areas. They must be capable of leading an art class and continuing and developing the "Art and Public Space" postgraduate course. Particular importance is therefore placed on the communication and consideration of current issues in the "Art and Public Space" discourse.

Chair duties include reliable presence, a high level of teaching commitment and student mentorship, committee and academy self-government work. Classes are taught in German; fluency in German is essential.

The remaining duties are in line with Article 9, employment requirements with Article 7 of the Bavarian Law on Academic Personnel of Higher Education Institutions (BayHSchPG).

Candidates must also fully satisfy the teaching requirements (certified) of an art academy.

Appointments are performed by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts. Candidates who have reached the age of 52 on their appointment may no longer be accorded the status of civil servant. However they may be appointed to the chair on the basis of an employment contract under private law.

The Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg seeks to increase the quota of women employed in the field of artistic research and teaching and therefore emphatically requests female artists to submit their applications.

Preference will be given to persons with special needs in the case of otherwise equal aptitude.

Detailed applications (including personal data sheet, copies of references and certificates, documentation of artistic work in media form and relevant publications) must be submitted to the academy by 6 March at the latest (vacancy closing date). Please do not submit original works and documentation per email.
